Nature reserve attached to the National Botanic Gardens of Wales. A mosaic of wildflower-rich hay meadows and pastures.
Waun Las National Nature Reserve lies to the north and east side of the formal Garden area. Occupying more than 150 hectares of Carmarthenshire countryside it has wildflower-rich hay meadows, lakes, stream, waterfall and woodlands which host potápka malá, stehlík konôpka, močiarnica mekotavá, vodnár potočný, trasochvost horský, pŕhľaviar čiernohlavý, žľtochvost domový, drozd čvíkota and several birds of prey.
Just north of the A48, midway between Crosshands and Carmarthen. Car park. Entry £ 8.50 per adult in 2022. It is not possible to visit the reserve without paying for admission to the National Botanic garden of Wales. Access is via the Garden’s main gatehouse entrance. It’s about a 10-minute walk, alongside restored lakes, to the start of the nature reserve. There are several walking routes. Stout boots as it can be muddy. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 7 km long.
