Description

Moseley Green and Oakenhill Wood is an open-plan wooded area between Parkend and Mallards Pike. In contrast to most of the Forest of Dean, there are few mature trees here. Oakenhill (a Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust reserve) and Little Moseley are former heath areas where birch is slowly taking over. Thus adders, sokol lastovičiar, pŕhľaviar čiernohlavý, sluka hôrna and lelek lesný are still a possibility in summer. kolibiarik spevavý, penica čiernohlavá and kolibiarik čipčavý numerous. Large flocks of juvenile stehlík obyčajný opposite the Rising Sun pub in late summer.

The area around Parkend church is excellent for winter finches. Look for glezg obyčajný (up to 30 in January) near the tops of the pine trees in the churchyard, and downhill from the car park. Also krivonos smrekový, stehlík čížik and pinka severská (ikavec) in smaller numbers. Small areas of wetland attract heron and potápka malá.
