Elevated 20 mile limestone ridge in north Somerset, includes the tourist spots of Cheddar caves and Wookey Hole.
The Mendip Hills are an excellent hiking and cycling area with several convenient car parks. Less common birds include penica hnedá on Crook Peak and Black Down; myšiarka ušatá and lelek lesný on Stock Hill. Raptors include sokol sťahovavý, sokol myšiar (pustovka), myšiak hôrny and haja červená. There are greater and lesser horseshoe bats, and great crested newts in the quarry pools.

Marked on the map is an 8 km out-and-back trail to Crook Peak and an 11 km circular trail going through Compton Wood, Hazel Park, Black Moor Reserve and Cheddar Gorge.
