Description

Bassenthwaite Lake in the lake District is providing a home for a wide variety of wildlife and especially for kršiak rybár. Between April and August the kršiak rybár put on their aerial display between Whinlatter and Bassenthwaite. They first nested beside Bassenthwaite in 2001 - the first wild kršiak rybár to breed in the Lake District for 150 years. You can see them from the outdoor viewpoints at Dodd Wood where telescopes and binoculars are provided. There are two viewpoints in Dodd Wood, an upper and a lower. From the lower you can sometimes see the kršiak rybár fishing in the Lake. The upper viewpoint is about a 30 minute walk up a forest track. Over the course of most days during the breeding season the kršiak rybár can be seen fishing, sitting, feeding and flying. Of course also many other birds can be seen on the lake and in the forest.
