This is a sinkhole lake. Surface water fills up the lake area in spring. There are sinkholes where can be seen the water disappear.
Lake Batmış has unique geographical features which gives the name of the lake "Batmış". There are emergent plants in spring which attracts birds. There are terns, ducks, gulls a so on. You can see high numbers of čajka smejivá, čorík bielokrídly, čorík bahenný, potápka čiernokrká etc. The landscape is just nearby Mount Süphan. The lake become almost dry at the late stage of summer because it loses the water through the sinkholes. Local peoples harvest the grasses from the lake site to feed the livestock.
You can go to Lake Batmış by car from Adilcevaz district of Bitlis province. There is no public transport. Roads can be slippery around the lake in spring and winter. Click on a P in the map for directions or coordinates.
