Stausee Mattmark and Monte Moro

Here, on the border of Italy and Switzerland, you can hike around a reservoir and up to the top of the Monte Moro Pass to see bird species of the alpine hights.

Description

Around lake Mattmarksee you can search for one of the most beautiful mountainbirds, the murárik červenokrídly, which likes to live near water. Other birds you can find here are vrchárka červenkavá, trasochvost horský and dážďovník skalný. From the lake you can walk up the mountain and see čavka žltozobá fouraging in groups near the "refugio", where you can also search for snehárka vrchovská. There is a chance of seeing orol skalný and bradáň žltohlavý flying by.

Access

On the Swiss side you can get here by car and walk. On the Italian side you can go up to Monte Moro by cable car or climb up by hiking. The walk from the lake up to the mountain has large rocks so you need good walking shoes and poles come in handy. Click on a P in the map to get directions to the starting point of your choice.
