Description
Along Skåne's south-east coast, between Löderup and Mälarhusen, lies one of the largest and coastal dune areas in Sweden. Sandhammaren has an open sandy beach that runs along the coast, which attracts many swimmers and sunbathers in summer. But outside the summer high season this is an excellent birding spot. in autumn and spring migrating sea-birds pass through here and large numbers of smaller birds such as thrushes, song birds and flycatchers often stop to rest. The area also has many breeding birds. Many small birds nest in the broad-leaved woodland, and keep a look-out on the open ground for the rare ľabtuška poľná. Hagestad and Sandhammaren also constitute the only large area of woodlands in south-east Skåne and have a rich fauna which includes moose, roe deer, rabbits and squirrels. Among the bids you can encounter in the area are bernikľa tmavá, bernikľa bielolíca, labuť spevavá, potáplica stredná, potáplica malá, kačica ostrochvostá, kajka morská, turpan tmavý, turpan čierny, ľadovka dĺhochvostá, potápač prostredný, potápka červenokrká, kulík piesočný, pomorník príživný, pomorník malý, rybár sivý and uškárik vrchovský.

Access
Parking spaces can be hard to find if you come on the busiest days in July. But outside high season you should have no problem finding a parking spot and the birding is better anyway.
