Bird rich ponds next to inland coastal meadows make for a bird rich combination.
The Norsholm area is quite vast and contains many minor sites shortly described here. The areas mentioned are marked with a star on the map. Press on a star and you can see the name of the area.
Grensholmsbron: Winter site with open waters even during harsh winters. Thousands of chochlačka vrkočatá (at most 2000), hundreds of potápač malý (only numerous during november and december), hlaholka severská (at most 700), kačica divá (at most 600), and potápač veľký (at most 600). Among more rarer wintering birds it is most known for wintering orol skalný, and rybárik riečny. Other not yearly winter visitors are krivonos bielokrídly, smrečiar krivonosí during invasions, and potápka malá, kačica chripľavka, stehlík horský, kačica ostrochvostá, potápač prostredný, and stehlík polárny during birdrich winters.
Norsholms coastal meadows: Reed free coastal meadows which are rich in waders during late spring and autumn. Although only if the water level is right (only during high water). Few arctic waders are found but kalužiak perlavý, kulík riečný, kalužiak tmavý, bojovník bahenný, kalužiak červenonohý, močiarnica mekotavá, sluka hôrna, kalužiak močiarny and kalužiak sivý. kalužiak červenonohý, cibík chochlatý, and močiarnica mekotavá breed. beluša veľká, rybárik riečny, and potápač prostredný are common.

All common dabbling ducks are usually found except kačica chrapačka. kačica hvizdárka, kačica divá, and kačica chripľavka. On these coastal meadows beluša veľká is often found.
Braskens grav: is an oxbow lake of the river Motala ström which often floods making it perfect for waders and ducks. kačica chrapka is numerous, kalužiak tmavý, and other common tringa-waders are often found along with močiarnička tichá. beluša veľká is often found here. sliepočka vodná, and lyska čierna breed.
Åby gård: complex of 3 ponds, the large, the small and fiskaretorpet. It is these ponds and the field around them which Norsholm is most known for. It has a bird observation tower. During spring it holds large amounts of ducks and swans with labuť veľká, labuť spevavá, kačica divá, kačica hvizdárka, kačica chripľavka, kačica chrapka, kačica lyžičiarka, chochlačka vrkočatá, potápač malý, and potápač veľký being common and kačica chrapačka and kačica ostrochvostá, being rarer. Other common wetland birds are lyska čierna, žeriav popolavý, volavka popolavá. kormorán veľký often roost here. Rarer birds roosting are potápka malá, sliepočka vodná, bučiak veľký (nearby reed areas), and beluša veľká. There are small islands in the pond which hold a small tern and gull colony. Theese islands also hold small amounts of waders often; hvizdák veľký, kalužiak červenonohý, cibík chochlatý, bojovník bahenný and kalužiak močiarny. During early spring the area is great for roosting geese and swans with hundreds of hus bieločelá, hus divá, Hus siatinná, bernikľa veľká, and bernikľa bielolíca during good years. often along with smaller amounts of labuť malá (rare), hus tundrová, hus krátkozobá, and bernikľa tmavá (rare).
Around these ponds myšiarka ušatá, potápka malá, sliepočka vodná, labuť spevavá, potápka chochlatá, bernikľa veľká, hus divá, kačica chrapka, žeriav popolavý, cibík chochlatý, močiarnica mekotavá, lyska čierna, čajka smejivá, čajka morská, labuť veľká, rybár riečny, bažant obyčajný, chochlačka vrkočatá, kačica divá, hlaholka severská, and southern trasochvost žltý breed along with more common birds.
During autumn large amounts of ducks can rest (but less than during spring). The small islands grow during dry summers and can some years hold arctic waders like pobrežník čiernozobý, pobrežník krivozobý, and pobrežník sivý. slávik modrák, and ostrohárka severská can sometimes be found on the surrounding fields.
The areas are located north, west and southwest of the town of Norsholm. There are many parking spaces available. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking.
