At the mouth of Motala Ströms in Roxen large coastal meadows and valueable fields can be found. The rapid waters at the mouth keep the water open year round.

Description

At Kungsbro 212 Bird species have been recorded. Kungsbro is a nature reserve next to the lake of Roxen. At the lake 296 bird species have been recorded. During winter large amounts (hundreds if not thousands) of chochlačka vrkočatá, kačica divá, and hlaholka severská. Among these potápač malý, potápač veľký, labuť veľká, potápka chochlatá, čajka morská, lyska čierna, labuť spevavá, kačica hvizdárka, and kačica chripľavka. In mild winters you can observe hundreds of hus divá, and bernikľa veľká. Sometimes škorec obyčajný, hus bieločelá, and cibík chochlatý also winter in the area. Birds of prey like myšiak hôrny, myšiak severský, sokol myšiar (pustovka), orliak morský, and kaňa sivá can also be seen in the area. And strakoš veľký.

During spring large amounts of geese stay in the hundreds on the fields and meadows. In some years cibík chochlatý, Hus siatinná, and škovránok poľný are found here. Large amounts dabbling ducks, can be found some of whom breed. Many wading birds like brehár čiernochvostý, hvizdák veľký, hvizdák malý, lastúrničiar strakatý, kalužiak červenonohý, kalužiak močiarny, and bojovník bahenný use the coastal meadows as feeding grounds. From the observation tower you get a good view of the lake. On the lake you can see hundreds of rybár riečny, čajka striebristá and čajka sivá. Smaller amounts of čegrava veľkozobá, čorík čierny, čajka tmavá and čajka malá can be found from May-September.

Kungsbro has a small colony of čajka smejivá. Waders like cibík chochlatý, lastúrničiar strakatý, kalužiak červenonohý, and močiarnica mekotavá. Other breeding birds are: kačica chripľavka, hus divá, lyska čierna, kačica chrapka, and potápka chochlatá. Among passerine birds trsteniarik bahenný, trsteniarik malý, strnádka trstinová, trasochvost žltý and many more breed.

During autumn ľabtuška lúčna, snehuľka severská, stehlík horský, ľabtuška červenohrdlá, holub hrivnák use the fields and coastal meadows as resting ground. Calidris-waders often use the coastal meadows when the water levels at Roxen are low. Among these pobrežník čiernozobý, pobrežník krivozobý, and pobrežník sivý are the most common. močiarnička tichá can also be found. beluša veľká and volavka popolavá are also often found.

Access

The nature reserve is just outside the towns of Berg and Ljungsbro. The area is close to Linköping. There is a parking spot at the birdwatching tower and south of the river Motala Ström at Sjöliden parking spaces can be found. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point.

Note: The coastal meadows are a bird proctection area and the coastal meadows are not allowed to be visited from 1/4-30/6. The birdwatching tower can be visited year round.
