Description

Just outside the village of Vegas Altas extensive rice fields start. The fields receive important winter concentrations of žeriav popolavý and several species of waders like brehár čiernochvostý, kulík piesočný, šišila bocianovítá, kulík zlatý, pobrežník malý, kalužiak sivý, bojovník bahenný, pobrežník čiernozobý, kalužiačik malý, kalužiak perlavý, močiarnica mekotavá and kalužiak močiarny. During the migratory passages, you can also see other wintering birds such as slávik modrák, ľabtuška vrchovská or strnádka trstinová. Other birds you can spot in the area are strakoš prieložný, amandava bodkovaná, astrilda vlnkovaná and dudok chochlatý. Also many wintering birds of prey (sometimes in high densities) like kaňa močiarna, kaňa sivá, haja červená, luniak sivý, sokol kobec and myšiarka močiarna. Best times for a visit are winter and spring, from November to May. From June to October it can be very quiet on the fields.
