Bird observatory next to the San Juan lagoon. Nice view over this wetland surrounded by reed beds, cliffs and low hills.
Laguna de San Juan is a protected nature reserve of about 40 hectares. The lagoon is located on the left bank of the Tajuña River, which joins the Jarama River nearby. The shape of the lagoon is triangular and surrounded by reeds, hills and cliffs of considerable height. On the islands in the lagoon, in the trees around the lagoon, the birds can raise their young undisturbed. Many migrating birds make a stop here during migration. The bird observatory is a quiet place with good views of the lagoon. Among the birds you can observe are kaňa močiarna, volavka purpurová, muchárik čiernohlavý, kúdeľníčka lužná, vlha obyčajná, žľtochvost domový, pŕhľaviar čiernohlavý, potápka malá, kukučka obyčajná, chochlačka sivá, sultánka modrá, rybárik riečny, sokol sťahovavý, kanárik poľný, ďateľ malý, muchár sivý, cetia západná, sedmohlások štebotavý and výr skalný.

Laguna de San Juan is located in the Madrid region between Chinchón and Titulcia. Three kilometers of track in good condition from the access road M 404. Next to the elevated bird observatory is a big parking lot. Click on the P in the map for directions.
