Description
Radensko Polje is a small karst plain south-east of Ljubljana. The landscape is a mosaic of wet meadows, fields, hedgerows and surrounding forest edges, creating a rich variety of habitats within a compact area.
The plain is home to bocian biely, volavka popolavá, volavka purpurová, beluša veľká and beluša malá. Seasonal floods attract ducks such as chochlačka sivá, kačica chrapka, kačica hvizdárka and chochlačka vrkočatá, as well as kalužiačik malý and kalužiak perlavý, while rybárik riečny can be found along streams. Raptors include myšiak hôrny , sokol myšiar (pustovka) and jastrab veľký, with sokol kobcovitý passing during migration. Warblers and several woodpeckers add to the diversity.
Though not the easiest birding location - birds tend to be elusive and the terrain challenging - Radensko Polje rewards patience with excellent birdlife and scenic karst landscape.
