This shorebird site is worthy of a detour if you are visiting the nearby Beljarica Levee.
This sugar plant between Padinska Skela and Kovilovo, some 15 km north of Belgrade, is closed for three decades and its ponds are filled by rains only. Most ponds are totally overgrown and only the two northern ones hold open water, the eastern one completely open ( šišila bocianovítá used to breed here), while the western one is half-overgrown and more natural looking. This spot is undervisited.
Birds to expect here are kalužiak tmavý, šabliarka modronohá, cibík chochlatý, bojovník bahenný, also kačica chrapačka and chochlačka bielooká, potápka čiernokrká, čorík čierny (migration), čorík bahenný, kormorán malý, bučiačik močiarny, dudok chochlatý, včelárik zlatý, kúdeľníčka lužná, trsteniarik veľký and svrčiak slávikovitý.
For driving directions, click on the P in the map. While an asphalt road comes to the gate of the former factory, there is a right hand turn-off leading towards the visible embankment.
Those 500 metres is a dirt track, muddy after rains and usually holding a puddle or two even when otherwise dry (I marked it as a route on the map).
