Serra de Alcaria Ruiva is the highest point in the municipality of Mértola, with 370 meters high. It has a dense, typically Mediterranean vegetation cover. On the top of Alcaria Ruiva you have a panoramic view. It is an ideal point for observing birds of prey that occur in the surrounding Parque Natural Vale do Guadiana. Among the birds you can see are: sup tmavohnedý, orol iberský, orol skalný, sup bielohlavý, haja červená, haja tmavá, orol jastrabovitý, hadiar krátkoprstý and orol malý.
