Description
Forte Siacci is the biggest Umbertine Fort of the Messina Strait. It's a good lookout point to see the migration of birds that follow the Strait of Messina, which is one one of the most important European migration flyways for both raptors and storks as well as many other species. Over the years more than 300 bird species have been recorded in the area and an incredible 40 species of raptors. 20-30 thousand raptors are counted every spring from March until the end of May, the commonest species are Včelár lesný, kaňa močiarna, haja tmavá, kaňa popolavá, kaňa stepná, sokol lastovičiar, moreover bocian biely, bocian čierny and včelárik zlatý also migrate at the site. In autumn the migration is less massive, but still well worth a visit. Also see the birdlist below.
