Description
The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see plameniak ružový, several species of ducks, lyska čierna, cibík chochlatý, different species of herons, kaňa močiarna, rybárik riečny, kúdeľníčka lužná and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as kalužiak sivý and šišila bocianovítá, as well as migratory ducks like kačica chrapačka and chochlačka bielooká. The site is one of the last places where kačka úzkozobá breeds in Italy. Re-introduced sultánka modrá can also be seen.
