Mt Hymettus is a great birding place, very close to the city center of Athens with several species to enjoy such as penica čiernohrdlá, skaliarik okrový, kuropta čukar, myšiak hrdzavý and muchárik malý . Different habitats (scattered forest, olive groves, makia vegetation, rocky slopes) provide excellent habitat for a variety of birds, basically passerines.

Walk around Kesariani Monastery to see muchárik malý in fall, also breeding sova lesná, strnádka svrčivá, penica sivá, králik ohnivohlavý, mlynárka dlhochvostá and výrik lesný. Drive up the summit in spring and explore the surrounding paths for penica čiernohrdlá, penica fúzatá, skaliarik okrový, skaliar modrý, brhlík skalný and myšiak hrdzavý.
