Description

Riedsee or Riedseen is the name given to several neighbouring quarry ponds near the town of Donaueschingen. In total, there are four larger lakes and several smaller ones. The two largest lakes are called Riedsee I and II, a smaller lake with a sandy beach, located directly next to a campsite, is a bathing lake. The lakes attract many birds during migration and in winter.

The regular inventory of the past 25 years shows that there are around 17 species of waterfowl that spend the winter here. 36 species of birds have been identified on migration. In November, the maximum number of almost 2000 waterfowl is reached. This is reduced by half in the middle of winter.
