Description

A small piece of alluvial forest (Auwald) that offers various birdwatching opportunities in the Rosental not far from the zoo in the north-west of Leipzig. You can observe the usual city park and forest birds as well as some water birds. For example rybárik riečny, oriešok obyčajný, potápka malá, chochlačka vrkočatá, labuť veľká, kačica divá, červienka obyčajná, pinka obyčajná, kolibiarik čipčavý, ďateľ veľký, sýkorka veľká, sýkorka belasá and more. And with a little bit of luck also a hlaholka severská which has been spotted repeatedly in the frog lake during winter and spring.

If you want to extend your bird walk, you can also make a detour to the Elster basin (Elsterbecken) and the Neue Luppe. There you have the opportunity to spot kačica hvizdárka, potápka malá, volavka popolavá, čajka smejivá, trasochvost biely etc.

Access

I recommend coming on foot or by bike because the trip to the Northern Rosental itself is nice. By car you can park at the SG Olympia 1896 e. V. (limited parking possibilities depending on the day!). Click on the P in the map for directions to the parking. By public transport via “Stallbaumstraße” or “Am Mückenschlösschen/Leutzscher Allee”.

The walking route indicated on the map is about 4,5 km.
