Description
The Nienwohlder Moor is a nature reserve in Schleswig-Holstein. The 398 hectare nature reserve lies northeast of Hamburg between the villages of Nienwohld, Nahe,Itzstedt and Sülfeld. It protects a drained and mostly gated high bog area, which is the largest and best preserved bog remnant in Schleswig-Holstein. It is now an open bog with numerous water-filled peat engravings surrounded by a bog forest in the area of former industrial use. The nature reserve is also an important habitat for birds. There are various waders such as hvizdák veľký and močiarnica mekotavá as well as ducks like kačica lyžičiarka, kačica chrapka, kačica chrapačka and chochlačka vrkočatá. Also many ľabtuška hôrna, ľabtuška lúčna and pŕhľaviar čiernohlavý. kaňa močiarna and strakoš veľký can be found too. The moorland area is good for žeriav popolavý which are now breeding here again. In the wooded moorland areas you can find various woodpecker species and strakoš obyčajný and many songbirds.
