Description

The Moosburger Stausee is a 2 km long reservoir on the Mittlere-Isar-Kanal, which is completely surrounded by a concrete dam. It attracts a large number of water birds, especially in winter. In addition to the common species such as labuť veľká, hus divá, lyska čierna, potápka chochlatá, potápač veľký, kačica chripľavka, chochlačka sivá,chochlačka vrkočatá, kormorán veľký and čajka smejivá, less common birds like potápka čiernokrká, hus bieločelá, hlaholka severská, kačica hvizdárka, hrdzavka potápavá, kačica lyžičiarka, potápač malý and čajka malá also overwinter on the lake. Rarities that can be seen quite regularly include potáplica malá, potáplica stredná,potápka červenokrká, potápka ušatá, potápač prostredný, chochlačka morská, ľadovka dĺhochvostá and turpan tmavý.

In the eastern part of the lake there is a small island on which čajka žltonohá and hus divá breed in the summer.

During migration, kačica chrapačka, rybár riečny, čorík čierny and sokol lastovičiar can often be seen on and over the lake. When the water level is low, mudflats are sometimes exposed, and many waders can be observed there. In general, however, the nearby Echinger Stausee is more suitable for waders.

Access

The Moosburger Stausee is difficult to reach by public transport. You can either cycle from Moosburg train station about 5 km to the lake or take bus 687 to the stop "Moosburg Uppenbornstraße". From there, however, you have to walk 500m along a busy road with no footpath. The lake is much easier to reach by car. It is located immediately west of the "Moosburg Nord" exit of the A92. There is a small car park at the southeast end of the lake. Press P on the map for directions. You can walk along the dam path along the lake shore.
