Next to the Prerow stream lie two lakes surrounded by seaside meadows and agricultural fields.
The two lakes of the Lychensee and Wiecker See offer a slight change of scenery on the Baltic spit of Fischland-Darß-Zingst, located in the middle of large meadows and agricultural fields. The area lies near the Vorpommersche Bodenlandschaft National Park.
Accordingly, you can find different bird species of open meadow habitats as well as waterfowl, seabirds and shorebirds. For example, this is a great spot to watch plenty of škovránok poľný and škorec obyčajný , but also fúzatka trstinová. The lakes themselves have kačica chripľavka , kačica hvizdárka , chochlačka vrkočatá , labuť veľká , lyska čierna , cibík chochlatý , pobrežník čiernozobý , beluša veľká , volavka popolavá and more.
Plus, both lakes accommodate herds of water buffalos. There are 2 observation platforms, one near each lake.
The area can be accessed by foot or, better, by bike. The northern Lychensee observation platform is about 3.3 km from the town of Prerow, and the southern platform overlooking Der See is about 2.5 km from the village of Wieck auf dem Darß. Cars can be parked in either settlement. Press a P on the map for directions.
The nearest train station is to the south at Barth. This is about a 21 km/1hr 10min bike ride from the area.
