Description

In winter, the Hurstsee is home to a great number and variety of ducks and other waterbirds. There are good numbers (between 15 and 100+) of kačica divá, kačica chripľavka, chochlačka vrkočatá, chochlačka sivá, lyska čierna and kormorán veľký.

Smaller groups of kačica chrapka and potápka chochlatá can usually be seen scattered across the lake. húska štíhla and labuť veľká are often present, as well as beluša veľká, volavka popolavá, rybárik riečny and trasochvost horský along the fringes of the lake.

With a bit of luck, you can also see potápač veľký, kačica hvizdárka, kačica ostrochvostá, kačica chrapačka (on spring migration) or even a stunning potápač malý here!

Waterbirds are the main attraction, but the trees and bushes around the lake are worth checking too. There are plenty of common woodland / garden birds, plus a good chance of seeing (or hearing) any of the following: stehlík čížik, glezg obyčajný, hýľ obyčajný, vrchárka modrá, králik ohnivohlavý, drozd červenkavý and tesár čierny.
