Large moorland/bog area (raised bog) near Quickborn in northern Germany.
The renaturized area of Himmelmoor (peat extraction was stopped in 2018, but renaturation has started earlier) is a very nice showcase of a large moor in northern Germany. It is both a breeding place for different bird species, as well as a resting place for migrating birds. Especially in the more lake-like areas a lot of waterfowl and swallows can be observed. In the (publicly inaccessible) areas further into the moor žeriav popolavý and occassionally a orliak morský can be observed from a distance.
Parking is possible at the old peat works and peat track (Torfbahn Himmelmoor, Himmelmoorchaussee 63, 25451 Quickborn). Click on the P in the map to get directions. The circular walk shown on the map is about 4 km long.
