Description
Fermasee and the floodplain of Altrhein Neuburgweier attract many birds. Parts of the lake are used by anglers and for bathing in summer. However, in winter the birds take the centre stage. There are often good numbers of chochlačka vrkočatá, chochlačka sivá, kačica chripľavka, kačica divá and labuť veľká. If you are lucky, you can also see hlaholka severská, hrdzavka potápavá and potápač malý here. Over the years, a number of rarer sea ducks and divers have been observed here, including turpan tmavý, potápač prostredný, potápka ušatá and potáplica malá.
The orchards and fields to the east of the lake are a good place to look out for drozd čvíkota, drozd červenkavý, havran čierny and kavka tmavá.

Access
The Fermasee and the floodplain of Altrhein Neuburgweier are located 8 km southwest of the city of Karlsruhe. There is a sizeable car park that makes for a good starting point. Click on the P in the map for directions to the car park. The best way to explore the area is to walk or cycle around the reserve / lake. The circular route indicated on the map is about 4 km.
