The Federsee is the largest fenland in southwest Germany and a designated Special Protection Area for the conservation of wild birds.

Description

The Federseemoor, with its unique mosaic of reed beds, sedge meadows, moor forests and open water areas, is a paradise for birds. With a size of 33 km2, the area is one of the largest groundwater-fed, contiguous moor areas in southwest Germany. To date, more than 280 bird species have been identified. Around 100 breed in the area.

Regular breeding birds include trsteniarik bahenný, trsteniarik malý, strnádka trstinová, fúzatka trstinová, and chriašteľ vodný. The bocian biely breeds in the surrounding communities. haja červená, haja tmavá, kaňa močiarna and sokol lastovičiar also breed. In autumn and spring many migratory birds rest in the moor. In autumn and winter thousands of water birds rest on the Federsee. With luck you can also see the bučiak veľký.

Access

The Federsee is located directly north of the town of Bad Buchau. The only access to the lake is from Bad Buchau. Click on the P in the map for directions to the parking lot near the visitor center. There is a small entrance fee to the reserve (€ 2,50). A wooden footbridge (approx. 1.5 km) leads through the reed belt to the open water and observation platforms.
