Description
The Kugelbake is a historic day beacon in the city of Cuxhaven at the northernmost point of Lower Saxony, where the River Elbe flows into the North Sea. The Kugelbake stands at a busy shipping lane and was once a vital nautical landmark. At this point, the estuary is about 18 km wide. Because the Kugelbake stands on the end of a dam and protrudes far into the water, it is a nice place for birding. You can overlook the beach, the harbor and the sea at the same time. Among the birds you can observe are kazarka pestrá, bernikľa tmavá, hus krátkozobá, labuť spevavá, hus malá, chochlačka morská, kajka morská, turpan tmavý, turpan čierny, hlaholka severská, potápač veľký, potápač prostredný, šabliarka modronohá, lastúrničiar strakatý, kulík bledý, kulík zlatý, hvizdák veľký, kamenár strakatý, pobrežník hrdzavý, pobrežník belavý, pobrežník čiernozobý, pobrežník morský, kalužiak červenonohý, potáplica malá, orliak morský, uškárik vrchovský, skaliarik sivý and snehuľka severská.

It is best to park in the Kurpark. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking walk over the dike. To the north you can see the Kugelbake.
