The Borgfelder Wümmewiesen are a nature reserve close to the city of Bremen. The area protects a large-scale wet meadow landscape as a cultural landscape, which is often flooded in the winter months. It is characterized by extensive grasslands with numerous ditches and small bodies of water. The protected area is crossed in the south by the Wümme stream. The area is an important breeding area for meadow birds. Among the birds you can encounter are cibík chochlatý, hvizdák veľký, lastúrničiar strakatý, močiarnica mekotavá, kalužiak červenonohý, chriašteľ vodný, trasochvost žltý, strnádka trstinová, svrčiak zelenkavý, škovránok poľný, kačica lyžičiarka, hus bieločelá, bocian biely, chriašť bodkovaný and chrapkáč poľný. The area is an important resting area and wintering area for migratory birds. In the winter months, ducks, geese and swans rest and hibernate here in large numbers.
Several paved paths lead through the nature reserve, where information boards are set up. You can explore the area on foot, but a bike is also a very good option. The Hollerdeich between Borgfeld and Oberneuland and the observation hill at the end of the Ebbensieker Weg are ideal observation sites. On the Hollerdeich there is an observation tower. Several parking places possible. Click on a P in the map to get directions to a parking. The area is also easy accessible by public transport with the bus or tram (line 4) from Bremen to Borgfeld.
