Description
The Biotop am Speicherbecken is 50 hectares in size. The nature reserve is located north of the Geeste reservoir between Lingen and Meppen. The reserve was created in the 1980s as a compensatory measure for the construction of the Geeste reservoir (als worth a visit for wintering birds). In the east there are fish ponds, the use of which has been given up, to which a swamp zone is connected. To the west of it a body of water with islands, steep banks and shallow water zones was created, which is surrounded by a ring moat. On the shores of the lake, wet meadows, alder forest and reed bed areas as well as sand and gravel areas have been created. Als these different habitats attract many birds. Among the birds you can see are chochlačka vrkočatá, kačica chrapka, hlaholka severská, potápka malá, potápka čiernokrká, kukučka obyčajná, hýľ obyčajný, penica čiernohlavá, penica slávikovitá and penica popolavá. On the Geeste reservoir in winter potáplica malá, potáplica stredná, potáplica veľká and turpan tmavý have been seen.
