Rocky mountainous island popular with tourists. There are three lakes to visit, wooded slopes and seawatch points.
The four best birding areas in Krk are 1. Cape Cuf for seabirds, and the small lake nearby. 2. Jezero Kraj Njivice (Nijivice Marsh), a natural lake with swampy margins especially in wet weather. 3. Ponikve lake, the main reservoir, also likely to overflow. 4. Wooded hills above Baska. Other places are shown in the link below. Among the birds you can see are čajka žltonohá, shearwaters, chavkoš nočný, sluka hôrna, močiarnica mekotavá, krutohlav hnedý, strakoš obyčajný, kaňa močiarna and kaňa sivá, šišila bocianovítá, sup bielohlavý, krakľa belasá, vlha obyčajná, kanárik poľný, slávik obyčajný, haja tmavá, kormorán malý, tesár čierny, žlna sivá, orol skalný and many other birds.
The island is connected to the mainland on the north side by a bridge. You can reach the island by ferry from Rijeka, where there is an international airport. Please note the absence of parking or other facilities at the wetland sites. Also footpaths marked may be flooded or very muddy after rain. Thus a telescope will facilitate viewing from afar.
The walk routes on the map are all of 2 or 3 km in length.
