Description
The Kleine Weikerlsee and the Große Weikerlsee are located in the Traun-Donau-Auen nature reserve, on the confluence of the rivers Donau and Traun. Along the banks of the lakes you will find birds typical of the region such as labuť veľká, potápka malá, hus divá and potápka chochlatá. The area is especially good in winter for overwintering ducks such as hrdzavka potápavá, chochlačka sivá, chochlačka vrkočatá, chochlačka bielooká, hlaholka severská and potápač veľký, but also kormorán malý, chriašteľ vodný and beluša veľká can be observed.
Because the lakes are surrounded by forest you can also find many woodpeckers and other woodland birds. In the summer, when the area attracts many holidaymakers, far fewer birds can be seen.

Access
The Weikerlsee recreational area is open to the public. You can park your car nearby (near the Kaiser-Treff at Weikerlsee). Press P on the map for directions. The circular walking route indicated on the map is about 3,5 km.
