Description

Lovely picnic and camping area situated on the Maitland River 31 km SW of Karratha. Star Finch is a regular and there have been irregular observations of Painted Finch. While probably not a 'go-to' destination because of the number of campers there in peak season, its' proximity to the North West Coastal Highway make it hard to pass on for the travelling birder.

From 'Explore Karratha" - see link: "One of the most easily accessible freshwater creeks near Karratha. After the summer rains, Miaree Pools draws crowds to cool off in the water. You will find it a 30-minute drive south of Karratha along National Highway 1. Miaree pools is a popular spot for people traveling up and down the coast, or are looking for a quick pitstop. Keep in mind there is minimal cellphone reception here.

There are several water front parking spots, and options for two wheel and four wheel drive vehicles to access the camping spots. There is a toilet, picnic table, and some shaded facilities. Individuals love swimming or bringing their kayaks down to the water.

Miaree Pool is a popular destination for swimming, camping, and swinging on the rope swing. The pools in the Maitland River can dry up or overgrow in algae during the long dry season. This makes it a little bit stinky after the long summer hot season".
