Description

An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly Пеночка-весничка and Теньковка, but also Славка-мельничек and Славка-черноголовка. More mature trees provide habitat for Серая неясыть. Обыкновенный поползень and Индийский кольчатый попугай have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular Обыкновенный зимородок and Горная трясогузка, and occasional Оляпка in winter. In its lower tidal section Травник is regular, and the semi-tame Крякваs can attract other ducks, including Пеганка, Чирок-свистунок, and more rarely Шилохвость and Мандаринка. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; Черноклювая гагара, Тонкоклювая кайра and Гагарка have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of Моевкаs moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
