Good mixed downland and managed habitats with rich chalk downland, wet woodland, a chalk stream and ponds. Almost 100 bird species have been recorded.
The Steyning Downland Scheme was launched in 2007 when the Goring family decided to set aside 67 hectares of the Wiston Estate in the South Downs National Park for the benefit of the community, the land and its wildlife. Habitats on the land include species-rich chalk downland, wet woodland, a chalk stream and ponds. Almost 100 bird species have been recorded in the area. On a slow 2 hour walk, we regulary see 30 plus birds here. Among the birds you can spot are Черноголовый чекан, Серая мухоловка, Желтоголовый королёк, Обыкновенная пищуха, Обыкновенный осоед, Большой пёстрый дятел, Ополовник and Перепелятник.
