Description

RSPB Dorman’s Pool is a rectangular lake bordered to the North and South by industry’s access roads, to the East by a high slag embankment and to the West by an abandoned railway line and a line of trees. About 50% of the pool is covered with reeds. This is attractive to good numbers of breeding Тростниковая камышевка and Водяной пастушок, and to Большая выпь and Усатая синица in some winters. The other half is mostly shallow water in winter and spring, but this dries up to some degree every summer, creating varying areas of mud and very shallow water. Dorman’s Pool also attracts numbers of waders, geese and ducks, as well as Болотный лунь from April to October.

Interesting and unusual birds that have been seen here include Обыкновенный жулан, Вертишейка, Чеглок, Малый песочник, Бонапартов песочник, Дутыш, Американский плавунчик, Круглоносый плавунчик, Краснозобая казарка, Погоныш and Желтоголовая трясогузка.
