Over 170 bird species have been seen in this reserve, and 60 are known to have bred. Great place for waders and wildfowl.
Mere Sands Wood is a Lancashire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve. Keep your eyes peeled for species like Снегирь, Полевой воробей, Большой пёстрый дятел and Перепелятник as they fly to and from their nests in the woodland. If you take a seat in one of the lakeside hides you may see Чомга performing their elaborate courtship ritual. Обыкновенный зимородок are present as well as wintering Большая выпь. The lakes and reedbeds also support Водяной пастушок, Тростниковая овсянка, Гоголь, Красноголовый нырок and more.There are multiple hides, and it's easy walking.
Decent car park (open 24 hours. £2 charge applies) and accesible trails (suitable for wheelchairs). Nearest train station Rufford (approx 1.5 miles away).
