Description

The Mendip Hills are an excellent hiking and cycling area with several convenient car parks. Less common birds include Провансальская славка on Crook Peak and Black Down; Ушастая сова and Обыкновенный козодой on Stock Hill. Raptors include Сапсан, Пустельга обыкновенная, Канюк and Красный коршун. There are greater and lesser horseshoe bats, and great crested newts in the quarry pools.

Car parks as marked on maps. Click on a P in the map to get directions to the parking of your choice. For walking trails visit Mendip Hills AONB website (see link below). Marked on the map is an 8 km out-and-back trail to Crook Peak and an 11 km circular trail going through Compton Wood, Hazel Park, Black Moor Reserve and Cheddar Gorge.
