In Glen Tanar 106 bird species have been seen, passerines and raptors prominent. Беркут, Полевой лунь, Перепелятник, Красный коршун, Канюк, Сапсан, Болотная сова, Желтоголовый королёк, Клёст-еловик, Чиж, Мухоловка-пеструшка. Wildcats possible, also Red Deer, Otter, and Pine Marten. Белая куропатка and Тетерев occur on higher ground, but although formerly a stronghold for Глухарь, these have unfortunately now died out.

Glen Tanar is 6 km (4 miles) SW of Aboyne, which is on the A9 road east of Ballater. The nearest bus service is in Aboyne (6 km). Click on the P in the map to get directions to parking and visitor centre. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 8,5 km.
