Description

Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large Золотистая ржанка flocks in winter, with records of Американская ржанка and Бурокрылая ржанка. Passage Средний кроншнеп and Краснозобик. Winter Морской песочник. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the Малая крачкаs that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.

Краснозобая гагара and Черноклювая гагара, and occasionally Чернозобая гагара, can be seen offshore in winter, and Белоклювая гагара has been recorded.

Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Варакушка, Зелёная пересмешка and Пустынная каменка. Пуночка regular in winter. Обыкновенный жулан and Серый сорокопут have both occurred on passage.
