Description

Duddingston Loch is the only example of a natural freshwater loch in the city of Edinburgh. It is an important site for breeding and wintering wildfowl and includes areas of mixed woodland, scrub, grassland and reedbeds. The Bawsinch and Duddingston Nature Reserve has water birds in plenty, as well as a large colony of Серая цапля that can be seen nesting in tree tops in spring. Among the birds that can be seen are Водяной пастушок, Чомга, Хохлатая чернеть, Лебедь-шипун, Малая поганка, Камышевка-барсучок, Тростниковая камышевка, and Славка-черноголовка. A large number of wildfowl also winter here like Короткоклювый гуменник, Серая утка, Чирок-свистунок and Гоголь. Otters can be seen too, if you are lucky.
