This is the biggest freshwater lake in Turkey. It has not only a nice landscape but also history. Bird diversity is impressive because of the habitat diversity.
Lake Beyşehir has more than 30 islands. There are historical castles and monuments around the lake. It is a good idea to combine visiting historical places and bird watching. During the winter there are thousands of Лысуха, Красноносый нырок and Красноголовый нырок on the lake. Also, significant numbers of Белоглазый нырок can be seen in winter. Орлан-белохвост is the impressive top predator in the wetland. They are most probably breeding birds there. You can see adult and juvenile birds there during the winter. They can be migrant birds but it is suitable area also for breeding. There are lots of bays on the shores of the lake. These sheltered areas are attracting birds for gathering especially in winter. On the other hand, this lake is on the transition zone from Mediterranean region to Irano-Turan region. So, there are many habitat types that make this place one of the richest one in terms of birds and wildlife.
It is easy to go the shores of the lake in the Beyşehir district. You can go there by car or public transport. You can park easily. On the other hand, it takes almost a day to drive around the lake by car because it is a vast, big lake. If you want to do bird watching and travelling leisurely around the lake, you have to consider that it will take almost a day (190 km!) to drive around it. So it is wiser to take more time. There are many places to make a stop, there are bird observation towers, viewpoints and bird hides. Click on a P in the map for directions or coordinates of that spot.
