Cross border lake of Turkey and Georgia. The two countries share this wetland. There are Розовый пеликан and Кудрявый пеликан colonies on the lake.
There are many islands on the Lake Aktaş wetland. All of them are stiuated in Turkey. The lake is located at high elevation and it is a freswater lake. The landscape is beautiful with mountain grassland on this Caucasus hotspot. This lake was a breeding area of Турпан. Also, it is still an important breeding area for Кудрявый пеликан and Розовый пеликан in Turkey. You can see breeding colonies of Кудрявый пеликан and Розовый пеликан which have been restricted to several wetlands in Turkey. If you lucky, you can see Турпан in the lake which is accepted an ex-breeding area of the species. A new record of Турпан will be important in terms of conservation.
You can reach Lake Aktaş by car. There is border gate between Turkey and Georgia. Public transport is not an easy option to go there. Click on a P in the map for directions or coordinates.
