The site is a good alternative to watch the autumn migration of raptors before they reach Ljungen.
Falsterbo Channel is the first place the migrating birds are reaching heading SW down on the Falsterbo peninsula.
The species that can be seen are the same as at Ljungen, ie. Обыкновенный осоед , Канюк , Перепелятник , Болотный лунь , Полевой лунь , Красный коршун , Чёрный коршун, Пустельга обыкновенная , Чеглок and Скопа . Regularly are also seen Степной лунь and on top of that, though less often, gems like Луговой лунь , Чёрный аист , Большой подорлик , Малый подорлик , Степной орёл and Змееяд.
The advantage to watch the migration from Falsterbo Channel is that the birds often are coming fairly low and that the birds that do hesitate often turn back over the channel before reaching Ljungen. The downside is that the observations often are quite short, even though you could drive down to Ljungen in time to see a precious bird ( at least the slow moving eagles) a second time.
If going by bus from Malmö, take number 100 or 300 ( the yellow busses) and step of at station Ljunghusen Elvabovägen. Then walk east along the channel.
If going by car, take road 100 towards Skanör / Falsterbo, cross the bridge and turn immediately left. Parking is to be find at the far east side along the channel. Press P on the map for directions.
The main point of the the migrating raptors is determined by the direction of the wind, something that becomes extra obvious at the Falsterbo Channel. Generally the birdwatchers are positioning themselfs along the channel to optimize this and the raptors are coming in a corridor above their heads.
BE AWARE!! There are car thiefs specialized on birdwatchers and their optics!! Never leave anything in the car. This goes for the whole area and other parts of Skåne.
