Description

Bergafjärden consists of a large coastal meadow in the middle and higher hill/mountainous areas to the north and south. Most of the coastal meadow has been turned into a large beach for tourists but there are parts untouched in the northern part of the bay. Over the years 207 species have been recorded. During winter ice-free periods are often birdrich although the shallow waters often makes it frozen during winters. Лебедь-шипун, Лебедь-кликун, Луток, Кряква, Большой крохаль, Гоголь, Серебристая чайка, Сизая чайка and Хохлатая чернеть are the common seafowl during this period. Among other birds Серый гусь, Серая цапля, Серый сорокопут, and Орлан-белохвост are uncommon. Wintering woodpeckers like Седой дятел, Зелёный дятел, and Трёхпалый дятел can be found most years. Some years Синьга, Длинноносый крохаль, Морянка, Турпан, Красноголовый нырок and Серая цапля also winter. In the forest most of common forest birds can be found. During invasions Щур and Белокрылый клёст can be found.

During spring most of the previously mentioned waterfowl become more common and in March many geese arrive. Larger amounts of Серый гусь (100 at most), and Канадская казарка (100 at most) can be found. Often along it smaller amounts of Белощекая казарка and sometimes Гуменник, Белолобый гусь, and even Пискулька (only very rarley). Among water fowl, Лебедь-кликун (at most 300), Гоголь (at most 300), and Чирок-свистунок (at most 90) along with smaller amounts of Турпан, Обыкновенная гага, Длинноносый крохаль, Большой крохаль, Луток, Кряква, Широконоска and Свиязь. Uncommon ducks in the area are Серая утка, Шилохвость, and Чирок-трескунок.

During spring many waders can be found. Most common among these are Травник, Фифи, Большой улит, Малый зуёк, Вальдшнеп, Перевозчик, Кулик-сорока, Черныш, Большой кроншнеп, Галстучник and Турухтан. More rarely Малый веретенник, Средний кроншнеп, Золотистая ржанка Щёголь, Чернозобик and Белохвостый песочник can be found. During perfect weather even Исландский песочник, Песчанка, Исландский песочник, Кулик-воробей, Грязовик or Краснозобик can be found although these are more common during autumn (while still being very rare).

During this period common terns (Полярная крачка, Речная крачка, Чеграва), common gulls (Серебристая чайка, Морская чайка, Клуша, Сизая чайка and Озерная чайка) and sometimes the rare Малая чайка is found. At bergafjärden notable breeding birds are Чомга (some years, rare), Обыкновенная гага, Турпан, Белощекая казарка, Пустельга обыкновенная, Красношейная поганка, Чеграва, Полярная крачка and Речная крачка. During early autumn large amounts of waterfowl, geese and waders can be found although these are often more numerous than in spring and arctic waders like Грязовик are more common during autumn than spring. Most waders are found during august.
