Description
Just outside the village of Vegas Altas extensive rice fields start. The fields receive important winter concentrations of Серый журавль and several species of waders like Большой веретенник, Галстучник, Ходулочник, Золотистая ржанка, Кулик-воробей, Большой улит, Турухтан, Чернозобик, Перевозчик, Черныш, Бекас and Фифи. During the migratory passages, you can also see other wintering birds such as Варакушка, Горный конёк or Тростниковая овсянка. Other birds you can spot in the area are Средиземноморский сорокопут, Тигровый астрильд, Волнистый астрильд and Удод. Also many wintering birds of prey (sometimes in high densities) like Болотный лунь, Полевой лунь, Красный коршун, Чернокрылый дымчатый коршун, Дербник and Болотная сова. Best times for a visit are winter and spring, from November to May. From June to October it can be very quiet on the fields.
