It´s a very flowing earth-level spring, produced by the water outcrop of the Caroig Massif aquifer giving a small river of 11 km (Río Verde).
Small wetland of only 2.26 hectares but of great ecological importance because it is located in a very anthropoized agricultural environment, which makes it an oasis for birds.
From Valencia, take motorway A-35, take exit Massalaves and in the first round take the first exit to La garrofera CV-544. Then drive during 2 km and before you arrive to the irrigation channel (Acequia del Xúquer) turn left. Then drive during 1,4 km following the wood signals, until you arrive to a big building (old irrigation motour) beside a small grove of riverside when you can parking.
You can arrive by car until the observation tower, but exploring the area is only possible on foot.
Despite its small size and strong anthropization, it has an important ecological value for the quality of the water and for having a great variety of plant and animal endemisms, with several species included in the Valencian Catalog of protected fauna species. It stands out for harboring the only world populations of 2 gastropods (Theodoxus valentinus and Theodoxus velascoi): an endangered fern (Thilyptes palustris) and also; one of the most important populations of a small endemic fish, highly threatened (Valencia hispanica), is found in the coastal wetlands.
