The Sierra Grande de Hornachos is located in the center of the province of Badajoz. The area is an authentic green island and an exceptional natural viewpoint among the great plains that surround it. A steppe meets mountain habitat with birds like Синий каменный дрозд, Провансальская славка, Белохвостая каменка, Короткоклювый хохлатый жаворонок, Иберийская сорока, Красная куропатка, Просянка and Горная овсянка. The rocky outcrops are surrounded by thick forest, which represent an ideal environment for a great variety of raptors. Sometimes even Ястребиный орёл and Африканский сип are seen. Best period to explore the area is in spring.

From the town of Hornachos you can explore the area on foot. On the map you see a 9,5 km circular route. But you can also make shorter walks or take shortcuts. In fact almost every path you explore in this area is good for nice birds. Whatever you do: protect yourself against the sun, take enough water and wear long trousers (there are many thorny shrubs) and good walking shoes.
