Mount Palencia is part of the Montes Torozos. Monte El Viejo is characterized by being mostly a holm oak grove with some areas of gall oak and more or less open areas of scrub (mainly rockrose and aromatic species). Some forest species that we can find are Большой пёстрый дятел, Зелёный дятел, Серая неясыть, Сплюшка, Красноголовый королёк, Светлобрюхая пеночка, Сойка, Орёл-карлик, Рыжегрудая славка, etc. In the open areas we can find Короткоклювый хохлатый жаворонок, Провансальская славка and Лесной жаворонок, among others.
