Description

With its lush riverine vegetation, floodplains and subtropical climate the Pafuri area is one of the most diverse birding spots in Kruger National Park. Falling at the southern most distribution of many bird species this area regularly delivers sightings unlikely to be found elsewhere in South Africa.

The Pafuri picnic site is a great place to get out the car and stretch your legs. With ablutions and picnic tables set next to the Levubu river you are sure to add a good number of birds to your sightings list. As with most birding spots within the Kruger National Park you are only allowed to walk within the designated area, but this still provides ample of bird viewing options.

Access

The Pafuri picnic site is located within the Kruger National Park that is access controlled and has an entrance fee. Access is by vehicle only but the roads are good enough that a normal sedan car can navigate them.

This spot is in quite a remote part of the park, so a trip to this picnic site needs to be carefully planned so as to get back to a camp or gate before closing time.

You have stay within the demarcated area at all times. The Pafuri area is notorious for its large elephant herds so keep an eye out for them.
