Description
Radensko Polje is a small karst plain south-east of Ljubljana. The landscape is a mosaic of wet meadows, fields, hedgerows and surrounding forest edges, creating a rich variety of habitats within a compact area.
The plain is home to Белый аист, Серая цапля, Рыжая цапля, Большая белая цапля and Малая белая цапля. Seasonal floods attract ducks such as Красноголовый нырок, Чирок-свистунок, Свиязь and Хохлатая чернеть, as well as Перевозчик and Черныш, while Обыкновенный зимородок can be found along streams. Raptors include Канюк , Пустельга обыкновенная and Тетеревятник, with Кобчик passing during migration. Warblers and several woodpeckers add to the diversity.
Though not the easiest birding location - birds tend to be elusive and the terrain challenging - Radensko Polje rewards patience with excellent birdlife and scenic karst landscape.
